Compagnie I AM NOT

I AM NOT Company

The I AM NOT company was founded in 2021 on the initiative of Simon Gabillet, driven by the desire to create works that push the boundaries between dance, theatre and performance.

Each project is an invitation to shift our gaze: onto the body, onto the other, onto our society. Drawing on the language of the body and the power of theatre, the company seeks to open up spaces where the encounter between artists and audience becomes itself a source of creation.

In 2024, the company signed its first piece: MAMALIA. An immersive, in situ performance, the work invites the audience to wander in search of a creature threatened with disappearance. Conceived for the Danse à Milly festival, it has already been adapted for new venues, notably the Center for Openness and Dialogue in Albania. MAMALIA marks the first collaboration between Simon Gabillet and Maeva Lassere, both performers and co-directors of the piece.

The company is now working on its second creation: SKINNY GIRL, a one-woman show that draws on its performer's personal experience to address eating disorders. True to its artistic and human commitment, I AM NOT continues its exploration of the intimate as a vector for universal themes, inventing new choreographic and performative forms.

And because some subjects deserve to live on beyond the darkness of the theatre, the company now wishes to develop mediation initiatives around these creations with diverse audiences, in order to open up spaces for dialogue on the themes they bring to light.

Creation and diffusion
To create hybrid works at the crossroads of dance, theatre and performance that can be presented on stage and in non-dedicated spaces, in France and internationally.
Arts outreach
To develop arts outreach initiatives for diverse audiences. Outreach is an integral part of the company's project, which considers art as a tool for sharing, dialogue and sensory experience accessible to all.
